| CURITIBA (TESTING), 9 March 2007 — The 2007 World Touring Car Championship kicked off in earnest at the Brazilian track of Curitiba today. The first testing session of the first round saw 21 cars in action on a very hot Brazilian summer's day. Thanks to the extensive winter test programme Chevrolet achieved, drivers and engineers could concentrate on just setting up the car for the bumpy Curitiba track. Alain Menu confirmed the Chevrolet Lacetti's shape by setting fourth fastest time in a session which was red-flagged near the end after an accident involving two competitors. Tomorrow, Saturday, two free practice sessions will precede the single qualifying session at 3.00pm local time.

. QUOTES

Alain Menu (4 th): “This wasn’t a bad start to the new season. We’ll still have to work on the handling of the car. I had forgotten how bumpy this track is. Because it’s so bumpy you hit the rev limiter much earlier so you have to short-shift on many occasions which obviously costs you some time.”
Rob Huff (7th): “I’m pretty pleased, actually. It felt good to be back on the track with everybody else after a long winter of testing on our own. In this session we mainly worked on the weight distribution in order to get rid of some initial oversteer. I was pretty impressed with the level of grip we have, considering we were off the pace at this track last year.”
Nicola Larini (12 th): “I mainly checked on the balance of the car. I hit some traffic on my best lap, which makes it look as if I’m a bit off the pace, but everything went okay actually. I’m quite confident for qualifying tomorrow.”
Ray Mallock: “During winter it’s always difficult to know exactly where you are compared to the other competitors. But the lap times in this session are promising as they show we are where we expected to be.”
